The challenge
In 2025, film distributor STUDIOCANAL faced a significant hurdle: launching their domestic family film, Kangaroo, into a highly crowded market dominated by big-budget, blockbuster competitors.
Targeting parents and children aged 4–12, the client needed a strategy that would cut through the digital noise and drive mass-market awareness and box office ticket sales. Crucially, they wanted to engineer significant organic reach and earned media buzz before their paid advertising campaign even kicked off.
To achieve this, TurnKey Promotions was tasked with creating an exclusive partnership and media activation pack to be distributed as a premium "prize pack". The strategy relied on securing real estate across Australia’s biggest media networks and corporate databases.
In a landscape fatigued by excessive digital advertising, the campaign required a high-quality, tangible anchor= a product so engaging and durable that influential channels would naturally want to feature it, and families would want to keep it.
The solution
In this case, our team bypassed traditional, disposable merchandise to engineer a premium, nostalgic backyard game: a high-quality canvas sack race set.
A tongue-in-cheek nod to a kangaroo’s pouch, the set replaced flimsy burlap with heavy-duty, sustainable blue canvas and vibrant orange handles, matching the film’s theatrical poster.
TurnKey Promotions managed the entire fulfilment process, bundling two canvas sacks with an A4 film poster, a co-branded book by Hachette Australia, a skipping rope, and a family cinema pass into a custom promotional box. These packs were strategically deployed to national radio stations, newspapers, and major corporate partners, including Qantas, Mastercard, Dymocks, Shoes & Socks, and the Australian Museum.
The transactional strategy delivered extraordinary leverage. Instead of passive giveaways, partners received a high-value asset that radio hosts played with live on-air and content creators featured in organic videos. This grassroots advocacy bypassed digital ad fatigue completely, delivering immense brand recognition.
